Why the ice bucket challenge isn't a challenge.

I fail to see how this ice bucket challenge is a challenge at all, heres why:

first, the description of the challenge (for those who don't know)
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research.

next, the definition of challenge:
a call to take part in a contest or competition, especially a duel.

now, what is a contest or competition?

contest: an event in which people compete for supremacy in a sport, activity, or particular quality.

competition: the activity or condition of competing.

IF it were a contest or competition, there would be some sort of...well, competition. but its literally just someone telling you to dump a bucket of ice water on your head and donate...and if you don't, donate anyways, why? because I said so and its a trend...oh yeah, and its for a good cause and its raising awareness.

Something just wracks my nerves about this whole thing because "challenge" implies that you are competing against someone and that theres an above average degree of difficulty involved...but beside a few variations, it's just every doing the same exact thing...over and over. On the other hand something like the cinnamon challenge is an actual challenge, because you are (if nothing else) competing against the rest of the people doing it on the internet, some can, some can't.

However; the ice bucket challenge has no loosers or winners, you either do the challenge, or you don't do the challenge, then apparently are forced to donate $100 to a charity because society demands it! ...and its a good cause. that is not a challenge, it's what I like to call a "loaded choice" its the same thing as saying "jump in that cold lake, then give these people over here $10 or don't jump in and give them a whole lot more." woah, woah, hang on a second, I thought this was a free country! first of all, If I want to donate to a charity...I will donate to a charity (for the record I have done so, and continue to do so toward charities I trust to use the money correctly, without provocation.) secondly, IF I decide to dump a bucket of ice water on my head, it will be because I am hot. but I digress...

the ice bucket challenge is not a challenge because it has no elements of a challenge. the ice bucket "challenge" implies it is a contest, or a competition, AND there is no mention in the definitions that you are required or provoked to do said challenge, I would say the ice bucket challenge is more of a goad

goad: provoke or annoy (someone) so as to stimulate some action or reaction.

of course, this goad is disguised as a "challenge" and your just
heartless and stupid if you don't do it because its for a good cause, right? for those wondering...thats where the "provoking and annoying" someone to do something fits in. yes its a good cause, but its still a loaded choice.

But don't let me rain on your parade (get it?), If you want to do the ice bucket challenge, hey, go for it. just remember its not a true challenge...and virtually anyone and their mothers can do it, and I have seen people and their mothers doing it. But if you don't want to do it, don't feel the presure to do so.

but please, if you really want to help, do your research, find a legit cause, try and find out how much of your money is going towards that cause and donate on a consistent basis.
